First Hebrew Congregation of South Haven will celebrate the holiday of Purim on Monday, March 2 beginning at 5:30 pm, with special guest speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Haus, Director of Jewish Studies, Professor of History and Religion at Kalamazoo College. His talk will focus on “Lessons learned from Purim: Solidarity and Us. ” The synagogue will also offer an English round robin reading of Megillat Esther, a mask making craft project and a pizza and hamantashen light supper. Attendees are invited to come in costume and to bring boxes of dried pasta to use as noisemakers. In turn, the boxes will then be donated to a local food pantry. Matanot LaEvyonim is a special Purim mitzvah to give gifts of money or food to at least two people in need.
